FAQ

From the UK to Dubai: your questions answered

Can’t find what you’re looking for?Talk to our team.

  • Can UK citizens buy property in Dubai?

Yes. Foreign nationals, including UK citizens, can buy in Dubai’s designated freehold areas. We confirm the status of any property we shortlist.

  • What does it cost to buy in Dubai?

The main cost is the Dubai Land Department transfer fee of 4% of the price, plus registration and agency fees. Our Dubai buying costs calculator shows the total on any price.

  • Do I pay UK tax on Dubai rental income?

UK residents are generally taxed on worldwide income, which can include overseas rent. Your position depends on your circumstances, so take advice from a UK tax advisor before you buy. We do not give tax advice.

  • Can I get a mortgage for a Dubai property from the UK?

Some UAE lenders lend to non-residents on stricter terms. Our property finance desk can introduce options; the lender or broker advises.

  • Do I need to fly out to buy?

Not necessarily. Video viewings and a power of attorney allow a remote purchase, though many clients choose to visit before deciding.

  • Does buying give me UAE residency?

Property above set value thresholds can qualify for residency. Our Golden Visa guide explains the tiers; approval rests with the authorities.

  • What about currency risk?

The dirham is pegged to the US dollar, so the value in pounds moves with sterling against the dollar. Factor that into your plans and take financial advice where needed.

  • How do you charge?

For resale purchases, a search retainer plus a success fee on completion. On standard off-plan allocations the developer pays our commission. Terms are confirmed in writing first.
